Scratchbuilding the Flour City Pt III
back to part I
back to part II

Part 6: The cooling system and fuel tank-
Depending upon the year of manufacture, This style of Flour City tractors could have one of 3 kinds of cooling systems.
Early style with tank cooling

Inermediate style with radiator and top mounted fuel tanks (the small one is for gasoline, the large for distillate/kerosene

Late, with radiator and enclosed tanks

I chose the intermediate style because it was most visually interesting. If /when I build another it will be late style. The radiator is a craft store wooden washboard, The base wood ans plexiglass. The tank support 'castings' built up from wood and Plastruct.. The fan and fan shroud are brass flat stock, the tanks plastic tube.

Step7 the fenders-

The fenders are built from flexiglas and the same pvc as the rear wheels recurved to a larger size

Late style fender decal. I'm having Stan Cedarleaf produce these.

Step 8: Installing other important bits-
The canopy supports are just plastruct angle and wire. The steering wheel is a g-scale brake wheel of indeterminant origin. The control lever a modified Ozark backhead throttle.

This pic shows the steering gear on a full sized Flour City looking up from underneath. It was easily constructed from Plastruct tube and Ozark chain.

Linkages are bent wire, the turnbuckle part of a trussrod from a junk Bachmann freight car. The belts painted paper.

The Canopy was made from a piece of LGB passenger car roof., any curved bit of material will work. The steps are bits of coffee stirrer and wire.

stay tuned for final assembly.....
